Levelling

Leveling rewards members for healthy activity. Strom grants XP, calculates levels, shows rank cards, publishes leaderboards, and can assign role rewards when members reach milestones.

Features

  • XP gain from chat activity.
  • Rank cards with level and progress.
  • Server leaderboard.
  • Role rewards by level.
  • Configurable level-up messages.
  • Staff controls for adding, removing, or resetting XP.

Commands

Every command works as both a slash command (/rank) and a prefix command (!rank).

CommandDescriptionAccess
/rank [user]Show a member’s rank card.Everyone
/leaderboardShow the server XP leaderboard.Everyone
/addxp <user> <xp>Add XP to a member.Manage Server
/addlevel <user> <level>Add levels to a member.Manage Server
/resetxp <user>Reset a member’s XP back to zero.Manage Server

The command list may vary by build. Discord autocomplete is the source of truth for your server.

Setup

  1. Open the dashboard.
  2. Select your server.
  3. Go to Leveling.
  4. Enable XP gain.
  5. Configure ignored channels, ignored roles, XP rates, and cooldowns.
  6. Add role rewards if desired.
  7. Choose where level-up messages should be posted.

Role rewards

Role rewards let Strom assign roles when members reach configured levels. For this to work:

  • Strom needs Manage Roles.
  • The Strom Bot role must be above every reward role.
  • Reward roles should not include dangerous permissions unless intentionally granted.

Anti-spam considerations

Leveling should reward normal conversation, not spam. Use:

  • XP cooldowns.
  • Ignored channels for bot commands or spam channels.
  • Ignored roles for bots.
  • Anti-spam protection for repeated message abuse.

Troubleshooting

Members are not gaining XP

Check that leveling is enabled, the channel is not ignored, the member’s role is not ignored, and XP cooldowns are not hiding expected gains.

Role rewards are not applied

Move the Strom Bot role above the reward role and confirm Manage Roles is granted.

Rank card does not send

Strom needs Attach Files, Send Messages, and Embed Links in the channel where /rank (or !rank) is used.
